Description
Morrow Meadows served as the primary electrical contractor for this 513 MW natural gas–fired combined cycle power plant on 46 acres in Otay Mesa, operated by SDG&E. As the largest air‑cooled power plant in California, it uses advanced emission controls, making it among the cleanest facilities in the nation. MMC’s work included installing two 170 MW GE combustion turbine generators, each with a heat‑recovery system, plus a 180 MW Westinghouse steam turbine generator and 110 supporting systems. MMC installed all distribution systems from 18kV to 120V and successfully delivered the plant on time and within budget. OMEC produces enough electricity to power more than 500,000 homes. The project required over 1,155,000 feet of cable, more than 40,000 terminations, 95 system turnovers, and a peak workforce of 180 electricians and 20 instrument technicians over a 22‑month schedule.
