Staff Accountant
Morrow Meadows is accepting applications for a Staff Accountant to join our finance team in the construction industry. The Staff Accountant plays a key role in maintainingaccurate financial records and supporting the finance team’s operations. This person handles day-to-day accounting tasks — from general ledger entries and reconciliations to assisting with financial reporting and audits — ensuring compliance with accounting standards and company policies. The Staff Accountant works under the Director of Accounting collaborates with colleagues in accounts payable/receivable and project accounting, without direct supervisory responsibilities. Construction-specific accounting knowledge is not mandatory, but familiarity with project-based accounting is a plus.The ideal candidate has excellent communication abilities, and a positive, collaborative attitude.
Responsibilities:
General Ledger Maintenance
- Conduct regular reconciliations for bank accounts and other balance sheet accounts (e.g. prepaid expenses, accruals) to maintain accurate account balances. Maintain the fixed asset ledger and depreciation schedules. Prepare and propose journal entries.
Financial Close & Reporting
- Assist with the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes. Prepare supporting schedules and help produce financial statements in compliance with GAAP. Perform variance analysis as needed to explain differences between actual results and budgets.
Revenue Recognition & WIP
- Supports proper revenue recognition and the maintenance of accurate work-in-progress (WIP) schedules and job cost reports to reflect project progress and profitability.
Project Accounting
- Participate in the monitoring of project budgets, costs, and forecasts. Analyze construction expenditures (labor, materials, overhead) and provide regular cost reports, helping keep projects on budget.
Audit Support
- Participate in the documentation for all audits – including financial audits, tax audits, and insurance audits to ensure timely, successful audit outcomes.
Tax Compliance
- Prepare periodic tax forms as required – for example, assist with sales tax returns and property tax filings. Maintain documentation for tax purposes and ensure transactions are coded correctly for tax reporting.
Internal Controls
- Uphold strong internal controls and company accounting policies. Ensure financial operations comply with corporate guidelines and relevant regulations and recommend improvements to mitigate risks.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with colleagues in accounting and other departments (operations, project management, etc.) to resolve issues and streamline processes. Identify opportunities to improve workflows and efficiency.
Financial Analysis & Data Management.
- Demonstrate the ability to develop strong analytical capabilities and to work with large and complex data sets. Learn to utilize advanced tools such as Microsoft Excel, Power Query, and Power Pivot to perform in-depth financial analysis, develop dynamic reports, and support data-driven decision-making. Experience in financial modeling, trend analysis, and data visualization is a big plus.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred (Associate’s degree with strong experience may be considered). Minimum 1 year of accounting experience required; construction and/or public accounting exposure and progress toward CPA or CCIFP certification are a plus.
- Familiarity with GAAP concepts and a foundational understanding of the GAAP framework; willingness to continue developing technical accounting knowledge.
- Excellent organizational, time-management, and attention to detail; able to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and maintainaccurate records. Demonstrates honesty, ethics, confidentiality, and compliance in handling financial data.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey financial information to team members and project managers. Collaborative team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated honesty and ethical handling of financial data. Must understand the importance of confidentiality and compliance in accounting roles.

The compensation range for this position is: $65,000.00-$90,000.00 annually. Compensation offered may vary based on work location, experience, qualifications, specialty, training, and market and business considerations, among other factors.
