Morrow Meadows was the primary electrical contractor for this 513 MW, natural gas fired combined cycle power plant located on 46 acres in Otay Mesa operated by SDG & E.  This highly efficient power plant is the largest air cooled power plant in the State of California and contains state-of-the-art emission control, making it one of the cleanest plants in the country.  Our scope included the installation of two 170 MW GE Natural Gas Combustion Turbine Generators, each with their own heat recovery system, a single Westinghouse 180 MW steam turbine generator and 110 separate systems that support the turbine generator combinations.  Morrow-Meadows installed all distribution systems from 18kV to 120V.  The construction and design team successfully met the commercial operation date and turned over a fully functioning power plant to the owner on time and within budget.  OMEC will produce enough power to serve over 500,000 homes.  The project included over 1,155,000 feet of cable with over 40,000 terminations.  The construction schedule was 22 months, included 95 individual system turnovers and had a peak crew of 180 electricians and 20 Instrument Technicians.
